University Of Ilorin Plans To Ease Transportation Challenge
The University of Ilorin in North Central Nigeria says it has concluded plans to introduce electric bus and train services to ease the transportation challenges of students and staff in the federal institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abdulwahab Egbewole, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN stated this during an interactive session with journalists at the VC's Lodge on the main campus at a Ramadan Iftar.
He said “Aside from the effort the institution is making on railway transportation, “we are also looking at electric bus transportation” he added.
According to him, the good thing about the project is that this is an open road few of our colleagues in the Department of electrical engineering are already working on that model and because the institute just released the Senate research grant, it is hoping that part of the grant will be used to work on that model.”
The Vice-Chancellor noted that in the Interim, more buses would be injected as discussions had been held with some of the people that intend to introduce more buses on the road.
“Transportation problem has reduced because we have created at least within our campus from gate to point is a smooth ride, we are also looking at the government of Kwara State in concluding the ongoing Tanke bridge project which will further reduce the transportation challenge,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism in making the institution the number one University in Nigeria, Africa and to be one of the prominent key players in the world with its vision one ten five hundred.
Professor Egbewole revealed that the institution has been designated as an innovation hub by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND.
On sports, Professor Egbewole expressed the willingness to support sports in its entire ramification.
“We will continue to support sporting activities because we believe that the health of our students is important and that sports have a way of impacting positively,” he said
“Our contingent will be part of the world University community games that is going to happen somewhere in Europe in May or June as I discussed with the director of sports on logistics for that trip,” he added
