The Kwara State Police Command on Tuesday said it was still investigating some officers over alleged extortion of a forex trader to the tune of N2m.

The PPRO, Okasanmi Ajayi, while speaking with City & Crime, the matter is still under investigation.

“Yes, we received an allegation that some policemen were involved in extortion of a businessman to the tune of N2m. But the substance of the allegation is still undergoing investigation and when we are through, I will avail you the outcome,” Okasanmi added.

According to a report by FIJ, an online news platform, policemen attached to Harmony Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kwara, harassed and extorted one James Karunwi, a forex trader, of N2m.

“He said he visited Ilorin two weeks ago, and was going to a market with a friend when a police patrol squad van accosted them.

“He said the officers ordered him and his friend to submit their phones. He identified some of them as Jude, Taiwo and Danjuma.

After searching through the phones, the police dragged them to the SCID headquarters, made them write a statement and then forced Karunwi to give them N2m through a Point of Sale (POS) merchant in the area,” the report added.
