At Faculty of Education Retreat, Egbewole harps on inter-disciplinary collaborations
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has encouraged knowledge sharing among the various Departments in the University, saying that this would birth more interdisciplinary researches and interdisciplinary degree courses.
Prof Egbewole stated this at a retreat organised by the Faculty of Education for its staff recently at the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Idofian, Kwara State.
At the retreat, themed ''Retooling Educators for the 21st Century Excellence'', the Vice Chancellor restated the commitment of the University to keep aligning with global best practices with emerging needs and trends in an ever-changing socio-economic landscape.
Highlighting the importance of readjusting some courses in the University, Prof. Egbewole expressed his administration's readiness to look into the need to undertake restructuring of some courses to achieve immediate positive change.
The Vice Chancellor, who noted that he had just received a report from the Curriculum Review Committee, said that the University would look into developing a strategy that will bring about specific changes in teaching and research.
Prof. Egbewole commended the leadership of the Faculty for retooling educators and noted that the idea aligned properly with the SMART agenda of the current administration.
While urging the gathering to identify the challenges in the current disciplines and look at the opportunities inter-disciplinary programmes will bring, the Vice Chancellor expressed the management's commitment to focus on improving the market value of degree programmes offered by the University.
Speaking earlier, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Mudasiru Olalere Yusuf, pointed out that ''the ever-changing educational landscape has brought to the fore the need to adapt our programmes to contemporary and emerging societal needs, thus this retreat''.
