Oke-Oyi: Three burn to death in road accident
A fuel tanker with a faulty brake was said to have rammed a taxi, in which the victims were riding, at a point near a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot at Oke Oyi.
The impact of the crash reportedly caused the tanker to spill its content, which then set fire to the car.
The state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oladayo Ademoluti, said the men of the corps could not render any help while the victims burned.
According to him, the remains of the trio had been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin.
The FRSC chief also said that 16 people died in an auto crash involving a trailer and a commuter bus at Osin river community, a suburb of Ilorin, on Wednesday.
The accident involved a trailer, loaded with bags of beans, that was travelling from the northern part of the country, and an 18-seater commuter bus.
A 10-year-old boy, who was said to have survived the crash, was removed from under the wreckage of the vehicles a few hours after the accident.
A witness said the bus was carrying passengers who were returning to Gbadamu-Ologi village, Ilorin East Local Government Area, from Oke-Oyi market, where they had gone to shop ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The witness said the driver lost control of the trailer while speeding down a slope and crushed the bus, which was maneuvering through a rough spot on the road, in the process.
