Rainstorm Destroys ARMTI, NCAM Property in Ilorin
Property worth millions of naira were yesterday destroyed by rainstorm, which swept across the Agricultural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) in Ilorin, the state capital.
In the same vein, the adjoining the National Centre on Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) suffered a similar fate, with the roof of the office of its Executive Director, Ike Azogu, completely removed.
The storm, which was heralded by a thick cloud about 10am, started from the main entrance gate of the institute and touched all the buildings on the campus.
It lasted for about 30 minutes.
At ARMTI, about 20 concrete electric poles conveying high-tension cables were felled, as most buildings on the campus either had their roofs blown off or their aluminum windows and frames forcefully removed and broken into pieces.
Over 20 split air conditioner engines in the offices and halls were pulled off from their original positions and smashed on the floors.
Besides, the ceilings wore ugly looks due to the effect of the storm, which made the campus look like a place rocked by bomb explosion. Executive Director of ARMTI, Samuel Afolayan, described the development as shattering, citing paucity of funds to replace the damaged property.
Afolayan has appealed to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the state government to come to the aid of the institute.
At NCAM, the property destroyed run into millions of naira, especially the roofs of some of the newly built buildings initially to be commissioned by the Minister for Agriculture, Dr Adewumi Adesina.
A devastated Azogu canvassed also called for assistance from government to return the institute to its old glories.
