Police in Kwara State have honoured 37 officers in recognition of their gallantry.

Among them are four officers who rescued four kidnapped Turkish nationals from their abductors in Gbale community, Edu Local Government Area of the state.

They were honoured at the Police Officers' Mess in Ilorin on Wednesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Egbetokun said the officers were honoured in line with the principle of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to recognise outstanding performances.

The four police who rescued the Turkish nationals are Adamu Danjuma (Chief Superintendent of Police), Yusuf Abdulkareem (Superintendent of Police), Sergeant Issa Jimoh and Private Onaja.

The remaining 33 officers are members of Operation Harmony, Highway Patrol and Anti-Cultism teams.

They were given certificates by the CP.

Egbetokun said, "Gallantry or heroism, display of exceptional intelligence in performance and accomplishing difficult tasks, absolute commitment and dedication to duty are usually considered for commendation awards."

The police chief said 17 officers were either in detention or facing orderly room trial for various offences.
