Date: 2019-03-29
Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, in Kwara, has charged the newly-inaugurated Market Security Stakeholders Committee to be prudent in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Adeoti gave the charge while inaugurating the 25-man committee in his palace in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara, on Thursday.
He said that the committee’s assignment is very critical to the socio-ecomomic development and wellbeing of the people of the community, hence the need for its members to be prudent in their dealings.
The monarch said the inauguration of the committee was substantially informed by the desire to guard against unnecessary injuries and casualty arising from illegal display of wares close to the roadside by traders and marketers.
According to him, the abnormal display of wares very close to the road, especially on the Omu-Aran-Ilofa Highway that traverses the community, constitutes serious stumbling block to the smooth flow of traffic.
"Not only the smooth flow of traffic is being hindered by this act perpetrated by marketers and traders but the attendance injuries and at times avoidable casualty has become worrisome, which must stop.
"This committee, which is expected to have sub committees and a taskforce team, is expected to look into this important issue and fashion out ways of putting a stop to this ugly act," he said.
Mr Festus Adetunji, the Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Omu-Aran Unit Command, who doubled as the Chairman of the committee, promised to imbibe transparency and diligence in executing the committee's assignment.
"We have held a series of meetings on this issue with some stakeholders, especially members of various security agencies and the Olomu-In-Council and the result is this committee being constituted.
"I want to assure everyone that the members will not relent a bit in the discharge of their responsibilities and we are at the same time soliciting the cooperation of everyone in order to succeed," he said.
Mr Onih Adegboyega, the Special Assistant to Irepodun Local Government Chairman, Hon. Muyiwa Oladipo, described the inaugurating of the committee as long overdue and a welcome development.
Mr Bidemi Adekanye, the Public Relations Officer, Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA), pledged the association’s commitment and support in achieving the desired objective.
The committee, whose members were drawn from the Police, Civil Defense, FRSC, Omu-Aran Youth Forum, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Irepodun Market Association, has Mr Kukujoba Olawale, a Staff Officer with Irepodun LGA, as its Secretary.
