Casual workers: Kwara assembly probes college

Date: 2018-11-23

The Kwara State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Education and Human Capital Development to investigate the use of casual workers in the state-owned College of Health Technology, Offa.

The directive by the House followed the presentation of a petition written by a concerned citizen and Human Rights Activist, Idris Sadiq, by the House Leader, Hassan Oyeleke.

The Deputy Speaker, Chief Mathew Okedare, who presided over Thursday's sitting, mandated the committee to submit its findings within two weeks.

The petitioner, according to the House Leader, alleged, among other things, that over 90 per cent of the workers in the institution are casual employees.

According to the petitioner, it is against labour law and international best practices.
