Kwara Begins Selection into Secondary Schools

The Kwara State Government has begun the selection of students into Junior Secondary Schools in the 16 local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the commencement of the exercise, the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimago urged the principals to adhere strictly to the distribution quota with a view to meeting the objectives set by government.

Onimago who spoke through, his Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Lamidi Alabi, explained that pupils' performance in the common entrance examination would be taken into consideration during the selection.

He explained that 38,460 of students sat for this year common entrance while 392 secondary schools were available for their admission.

The commissioner pointed out that principals should note that the cut-off for this year entry into junior secondary schools remain one hundred and eighty (180).

"I am quite aware that most, if not all of you are familiar with the selection procedure, it is however still very important that you should be reminded of some basic issues connected with the exercise," he said

Oninago also stated that the principals need to adhere to the numbers of candidate allotted to their school by the ministry.

He however, expressed this administration's commitment to the provision of qualitative education and urged everyone to give their maximum support.

Speaking earlier, the Director of Curriculum and Assessment Department, Alhaji Nurudeen Ishola explained that the purpose of the meeting was to select students into junior secondary schools.
