Flying Eagles Beat ABS 3-1 in a Friendly
The Flying Eagles defeated Nigeria Premier League side ABS 3-1 at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin Tuesday in continuation of their preparation for a 2013 AYC qualifier in South Africa.
The two teams played out a goalless draw when they played another friendly at the same venue about three months ago.
And it looked like the latest confrontation would also go this way before striker Yahaya Adamu found the back of the net in the 80th minute after he was put through on goal.
According to the team's Media Officer, Sam Audu, Bright Ejike doubled the Flying Eagles lead five minutes later from the penalty spot after an ABS player handled the ball inside his box.
"In stoppage time, Ejike was as a cool as cucumber to help home another superb through ball", he added.
However, there was enough time for ABS to pull a goal back through a free kick by Efioma Osagie.
Flying Eagles were rewarded for sustained pressure especially in the closing moments of the game.
Task ahead
The Flying Eagles are scheduled to play another NPL outfit, Kwara United, by the weekend also in Ilorin, where they have been training for their AYC qualifier.
Nigeria will be guests to the Amajita of South Africa in Johannesburg on September 22 with the return leg in Ilorin two weeks later.
The overall winners of this clash will qualify for the AYC to be hosted by Algeria in March.
