Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has urged the new Commissioner of Police in the state to tackle insecurity, criminality and maintain law and order.

Ahmed made the call on Monday when he received the newly-posted Commissioner of Police, Mr Aminu Saleh, at Government House, Ilorin.

He said he would not relent in his efforts to ensure that security challenges in the state were properly addressed.

He said the current security trends in the country required proactive measures to combat crimes as armed robbery, herdsmen/farmers clashes, cult activities and communal clashes arising from boundary disputes.

The governor also promised to give big boost to community policing in the state.

"We want you to champion the cause of community policing which will involve all and sundry.

"We have alerted our traditional rulers that they should also carry on advocacy and the need to strengthen community policing at the Local Government levels with Divisional Police Officers," he said.

He said his administration would ensure that lives and property were secured by working closely with security agencies in the state.

According to him, a special force has been put together under Harmony Security System to serve as a rapid response team in areas of security needs.

The police commissioner assured the governor that he would take necessary measures to restore security to the state.
