Saraki tasks politicians on service

Date: 2012-02-16

Senator, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has urged political leaders to ensure the delivery of dividends of democracy to the electorate.

Saraki, who purchased 1,225 registration forms of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board/UTME 2012/2013 for eligible candidates, on Wednesday in Ilorin, said public office holders must be in tune with their constituencies.

Saraki, who was represented by Kwara State Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Suleiman Yusuff, said governance was meant to impact positively on the lives of the people.

He said, "We must not be public office holders that will forget those who have given us mandates to be where we are today. We need to show them that we are worthy of the offices we are presently occupying. The Governor has no doubt done very well in this area. But other people should emulate him.

"We must not wait until election time before we shall visit our wards.

"We need to go there regularly. We need to mix freely with our people in order to know their areas of needs. We need to see if they have water to drink. We need to know if they can afford hospital bills."
