National grid: 50 communities to be connected in Kwara

Date: 2017-04-20

To ensure that citizenry enjoys electricity supply, about 50 communities have been penciled down in the 2017 budget to be connected to the National grid in Kwara State.

The benefiting communities are listed in the fiscal document signed into law recently by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The Chairman, Committee on Energy and Works in the State House of Assembly, Mathew Olaitan Babaoye, disclosed this while speaking with Journalists in Ilorin yesterday.

Babaoye informed that more electricity transformers would also be distributed to various communities in the state to ensure that they are all electrified.

The lawmaker, who represents Irepodun Constituency, stated that some communities would also be energized through the power project earmarked in the appropriation law.

Babaoye explained that some rural communities listed in the project are to experience what he called "model form of green energy" across the three senatorial districts of the state.

He said the green energy was made of solar power so as to guarantee uninterrupted power supply in the benefiting communities.

"The State House of Assembly is committed to the welfare of the people and we will continue to make law for the common good of our people. In this year's budget, which was signed into law by Governor (Abdulfatah) Ahmed few weeks ago, about 50 communities have been listed to be connected to the National grid.

"That move alone is to demonstrate the commitment of the present administration to work for our people. Some transformers procured in 2014 but which were yet to be energized, will be done through some provisions made in the 2017 budget.

"Our people should be guided by the fact that this year's budget is meant to cater for them", the lawmaker said.

Babaoye had earlier toured the 11 wards comprising Irepodun Constituency, where he informed his constituents on new and ongoing projects across the state.
