Kwara Speaker bags Lawmaker of the Year award

The Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad at the weekend was conferred with Hall of Grace Lawmaker of the Year Award among other eminent Nigerians for his selfless service ?and astute leadership at the state Assembly.

The programme which was held in Lagos had other awardees such as Governor of the State of Osun, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Senator Dino Melaye and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye ?Ogunwusi Ojaja II.

Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mathew Okedare, the Speaker expressed his delight for being selected for such honour, stressing that it would spur him to further contribute to the development of not only Kwara State, but Nigeria at large.

Ahmad said right from the state 8th Assembly inauguration, the legislators have pledged to strive towards ensuring qualitative representatives for Kwarans.

This, he noted they have been working tirelessly to achieve in order to enhance the peoples well-being through proper ?legislation and provide adequate support to the Executive.

?The Speaker who thanked his colleagues for their support and maximum cooperation however dedicated the award to them and Kwarans.

Earlier, the Grand Custodian of HOG Awards, Chief Alex Akinyele had noted that the idea was conceived in order to celebrate and encourage Nigerians who are performing excellently in their various endeavours.

In a related development, the Speaker was also honoured with another Award of Excellence on Saturday by the Northern Students' Presidential Forum (NSPF), Ahmadu Bello University Chapter. The forum is an amalgam of President of Students Union Associations in Northern Nigeria.

?Speaking, the forum Chairman, Saddam Fago described the Speaker as an epitome of exemplary leadership and advocate of peace, stressing that it was an easy decision among members while he is being considered for the honour.

"The decision to honour you was collective and the forum cannot find anyone worthy than your humble self for your contributions to human development through youth empowerment and education" , he added.
