Murdered Doctor: Manhunt for alleged mastermind intensifies

Date: 2016-08-15

A discreet manhunt has begun for the prime suspect in the alleged murder of a medical doctor in Kwara State, AbdulKareem Tunde Abdulrahman. Security operatives have intensified surveillance and dispatched dragnets to nab the alleged mastermind named Jamiu Mohammed.

Jamiu, a Bennoise was just released from Prison in March this year, a source told The Herald. Although the medical officer was declared missing on July 24 when his whereabouts was shrouded in mystery, it was learnt that the victim was killed in his father's house. He was murdered three weeks to his wedding introduction. According to a family source, his introduction with his spouse had been fixed for August 13, two days ago.

Tunde Abdulrahman was a member of the state chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and medical doctor with the state Hospital Management Bureau, deployed to Omu-Aran General Hospital, Irepodun Local Government. The prime suspect in the gruesome killing, Jamiu reportedly conspired with two other accomplices to perpetrate the criminal act.

While some suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident, the main suspect had gone into hiding to evade arrest by security operatives. The father of the suspect, a security employee at the residence of the father of the slain doctor at Plot 3, Professor Awe Close, Off Abdulkareem Adisa Street, GRA, Ilorin, who was privy to the deadly act, is now in protective custody. It was learnt yesterday that detectives assigned with the duty of finding the suspect and his whereabouts were keeping information on the manhunt to themselves to avoid being divulged to the public domain.

The Herald gathered that presenting interim report on the alleged murder would jeopardize the ongoing probe and the intense search for the mastermind. A security source told our correspondent that the suspect disappeared when the news filtered in that other accomplices had been arrested.

It has been exclusively reported by this newspaper that Dr Tunde Abdulrahman was hacked to death against the widespread belief that he went missing. The source said, "After we arrested some of the suspects in connection with the missing doctor, we have decided to look for the main mastermind. These suspects were arrested after we successfully tracked the two mobile phones of the victim. "With this arrest, the main suspect might get the hint of the other suspects in our net and we believed he had gone into hiding. But we have dispatched our intelligence and dragnets and very soon he would be picked up.

"We are conscious of the expectation of the public on this murderous incident. And that is why we have been working exclusively and keeping things to ourselves because any public comment on it might jeopardize our investigation". DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, spokesman of the state police command, had confirmed the arrest of some suspects in connection with the missing doctor, adding that they are currently undergoing interrogation with security operatives.
