NULGE rejects distribution of June allocation in Kwara

Date: 2016-06-26

The Kwara branch of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) on Saturday rejected the distribution of the June allocation to agencies and councils by the state government. A statement from Mr Afolabi Abayomi, the Secretary of the union, in llorin described the distribution as "unfair".

The statement was issued after the Joint Account Allocation Account Committee meeting held on June 23 and June 24 in llorin. It said the sharing formula which gives only 40 per cent to the 16 local government councils would not be able to cushion the untold hardship currently faced by more than 14,000 workers in the state.

"NULGE in Kwara wishes to reject the mode of distribution of the June allocation because the sharing formula was unfair, biased, unjustifiable and an injustice, thus totally rejected," the statement added.

It alleged that 60 per cent of the June allocation and 10 per cent of the internally generated revenue were allocated to the Universal Basic Education Board against the provisions of the constitution.

The statement also appealed to Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed to direct the redistribution of the allocation in line with the existing pro-rata arrangement. It noted that the distribution was a calculated attempt to cripple the local government councils in the state.

It also urged local government workers to use the Ramadan for prayers to overcome the problems confronting them. The workers in the local government councils had since commenced a strike to protest unpaid.
