Salary arrears: Ahmed allays workers' fears
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State yesterday in Ilorin allayed the fears of workers particularly local government workers and SUBEB teachers who were yet to be paid to be rest assured that their salaries would be settled immediately after the on-going verification exercise.
Addressing workers during his inspection of the verification exercise at the Ilorin West Local Government Secretariat, the governor said the exercise was not meant to inflict sufferings on anyone but to correct certain anomalies.
According to him, "This verification exercise is necessary in order to end problem associated with workers' salary. We just have to do it for us to move ahead".
Governor Ahmed also underscored the importance of the exercise, saying that the ongoing exercise was to allow for proper planning and enhance growth and development.
The governor who hinted that improper data had over the years impeded growth and development in the state, emphasised that the exercise was necessary. He further explained that the issue of salary delay would soon be over, stressing that the government did not bargain for the present situation.
The Secretary to the State Government(SSG), and the Alternate Chairman, Kwara State Committee on Personnel Database Development, Alhaji Isiaka Gold had earlier told the governor that 2,747 people had been captured so far.
He explained that 19,000 people were expected to be captured, saying that local government workers and pensioners had been captured.
