Commissioner warns SUBEB against unapproved spending

Date: 2015-12-16

The Kwara State government yesterday cautioned the management of the state Universal Basic Education Board against unauthorized spending. The government said it would not hesitate to wield punitive action against any official of the board found to be indulging in spending outside the annual fiscal year duly approved for the board by the state government.

The state commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Musa Yeketi, gave the warning when he paid an unscheduled visit to the office of the state Universal Basic Education Board in Ilorin.

Yeketi pointed out that the government was cognizant of inadequate fund currently plaguing the state and would not condone sabotage. He also warned civil servants in the state to avoid indolence and indiscipline that could impede the reform in the civil service.

He asked the civil servants to be up and doing by complementing government's efforts at improving service delivery. The commissioner told the senior officials of SUBEB on the report reaching his office on the laxity of the management of the board.

Yeketi warned that the government would no longer tolerate negative attitude that could draw back its set goal in reforming the civil service for optimum performance.

He also urged them to brace up for the challenges ahead through inculcation of discipline among staff.
