2016, year of consolidation - Gov Ahmed
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State yesterday in Ilorin, vowed that the coming year would be year of consolidation on past gains.
The governor who dropped the hint while receiving the Deputy Programme Manager ESSPIN, Jake Ross who led other members of Education Support Services Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) on courtesy call on the Governor at the Government House, Ilorin, spoke of his readiness to deepen his government's past gains and break new grounds.
He added that the government had repositioned and redefined its revenue sources to enable it pursue its policies and programmes without any hindrance. "In face of the current dwindling revenue, the government has put a measure in place to assist in funding all projects and right budgeting will continue to go to education sector".
He further explained that education as bedrock of any development would be given priority, saying that availability and accessibility of education would be improved upon.
He disclosed that measures would be put in place to drive programmes put together by ESSPIN particularly curriculum, training and re-training of teachers among others.
According to the Governor, "institution put in place for training and re-training of teachers like Education Resource Centre would be put on better pedestal.
"Budgeting and funding of education would be put on better perspective so that qualitative education would be improved upon".
He also said that the government would continue to partner ESSPIN on improvement of teachers, infrastructures among others.
The Deputy Programme Manager ESSPIN, Jake Ross had earlier in his remark told the governor that ESSPIN was an education-support programme in six states of the federation which included; Enugu, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara and Lagos.
He also said the ESSPIN programmes covered all Government-owned primary schools in the state, saying that the programme was in 12 Local Government Areas of the 16 Local Government Areas in the state.
Ross who explained that all teachers and head teachers received training from the beginning of the programme disclosed that 16million children and 16,000 schools had benefited since the inception of the programme in 2009. He added that School Based Management Committee in the Local Government Areas had improved tremendously across the state.
