KWSG reiterates commitment to infrastructural development
The Kwara State Government has again stressed its determination to pursue one of its cardinal policies of infrastructural development in the state.
The statement was made today by the Commissioner for Works and Transport Alhaji Aro Yahaya in his maiden meeting with all the contractors handling state government projects at the ministry's conference room.
Alhaji Yahaya appealed to the contractors to be patient as all hands were on deck to improve and source for finance to drive various projects to completions, adding that the contractors should ensure projects were executed according to specifications and standard.
Alhaji Aro Yahaya appealed to contractors to come to him anytime with useful contributions that would help in moving the Infrastructural development of the state forward, stressing that the provision of Infrastructures to the good people of the state must be a collective responsibilities of all the stakeholders.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Town Planner Alabi Amuda pointed out that the meeting was aimed at acquitting the contractors with the new leadership of the ministry, saying that the commissioner had demonstrated his wiliness to work and improve on the existing cordial relationship between the government and the contractors.
Speaking on behalf of the contractors the Managing Director of BAL Engineering Limited Engr. Bashir Lawal, thanked the new commissioner and the management for the meeting, but advised his colleagues' that the era of business as usual was over and that contractors must do their work according to specifications to avoid sanctions by the Engineering Regulatory body (COREN).
He also solicited prompt payments to avoid unnecessary delay in projects completion, and prayed for speedy financial recovery for the state.
Engineer Ahmed Kola Managing Director Bitto Nigeria Limited also advised the government to take the advantage of the dry season to embark on road works which was time bound.
Alhaji Lukman Atanda Abdullahi of Loat Nigeria Limited opined that thirty percent mobilization for the contractors should be improved upon to fifty percent to ensure serious impact on road projects.
A consultant with the Yola consultant, Engr. Abubakar Aduragba also appealed for prompt payment of contractors which according to him would help to speed up completion of projects.cc
