'Senate committed to positive transformation of health sector'- Saraki
The Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has restated the commitment of the 8th national assembly to continue to champion legislations that would pave way for the anticipated positive transformation of the country's health sector.
The Senate President gave the assurance during a dinner organised in his honour by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), as part of events to end the six-day long National Executive Council (NSC) meeting of the association, held at the Banquet Hall, Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
Senator Saraki added that no stone would also be left unturned in fine-tuning the National Health Act as a comprehensive approach to ensuring accessible, affordable and qualitative health care delivery to Nigerians.
Represented by Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, he described the NMA as a formidable body in the health sector and promised the readiness of the National Assembly to regular consultations with the association in the bid to achieve its enviable plans for the country;s health sector.
The Senate President however, charged the body to continue to support the initiatives of the present administration and regularly bring to the fore the expertise of its members to make the country achieve its set goals in the health sector.
Also speaking at the event, the National President of the NMA, Dr. Kayode Obembe stressed the urgent need for the federal government to fast track the process of making the Community Health Insurance Scheme cut across all parts of the country.
Dr. Obembe who specifically identified with the notable strides of the Kwara State Government in the health sector, urged the people to avail themselves of the quality health care service delivery in the state for sound medical condition.
In his closing remark, the Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of the NMA, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla noted with delight that the programme had gone a long way to broaden the horizon of its members and also served as an opportunity to provide free surgeries, treatment and distribute basic health facilities to the people.
He commended the Senate President for his giant stride as a serving governor, as well as Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for sustaining the good work and reaffirmed the determination of the association to helping the government achieve the desired overhaul of the state's health sector.
The programme was attended by the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Alhaji Rafiu Ayinla who represented of the state governor, representative of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chairman Senate Committee on Health, .Dr Ahmed Muhammed, state chairmen of the NMA, medical practitioners and other critical stakeholders in the health sector.
