'Weak health policy, bane of health sector development'
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has identified weak health policy at the centre as a bane of Nigeria's health sector development.
The governor who made the observation while receiving the National President, Nigerian Medical Association(NMA), Dr Kayode Obenbe who led other executives on a courtesy call to the governor at the Government House, Ilorin, expressed optimism that the present government would do all within its power to address the problem.
Governor Ahmed who recalled that the immediate past Federal Government handled the issue of health with levity, said the problem of improper statistics had contributed in no small measure.
He also expressed hope that a new policy would be put in place to harmonise the differences with a view to enhancing a well structured and methodically designed healthcare delivery system.
"No country can develop without good health, and development premise productivity. So, there cannot be productivity without good health".
He also spoke of his government's giant stride in the health sector and promised to strengthen its Community Insurance Health programme in order to achieve universal health coverage.
The governor who promised to improve welfare package of the state's health personnel particularly doctors, urged them to key into the state's new revenue drive.The National President, NMA, Dr Kayode Obenbe applauded the state government on its health programme, saying that " Kwara is on the front line on Community Health Insurance programme.
He also praised the government for its welfare packages for doctors in the state and appealed to the government to implement new template for them in the state.
