Press Release - Easter: Atunwa Tasks Nigerians on Unity

Date: 2015-04-04

As Christians across the world mark the holy celebrations of the life of Jesus Christ, the Speaker of the Kwara State Assembly and Member-Elect of Federal House of Representatives, Barr. Razak Atunwa has urged Christians in Nigeria to draw substance from the significant life of Jesus.

In a statement signed by the media office of the lawmaker, Atunwa stated that religious beliefs and practices are fundamental to nation building. He urged Christians across the nation to afford the opportunity provided by this season to draw special strength and lessons from the life of Jesus Christ which will be useful for our unity as a people who trust in God.

"Preceded by the Lenten season, the pinnacle theme of this Easter season which is the life of Jesus is a salient lesson Christians must imbibe in public commitment and social relations. Nigerians at large must embrace the spirit of sacrifice for the nation in order to overcome selfish and conflicting interests, ethnicity, corruption among others.

"Nigeria connects us all including Christians and Muslims, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. It is our inherent commitment to love our fellow country men and women as we love ourselves regardless of the tribe or religion. To remember, I am my brother's keeper. We must continuously rededicate ourselves to the mission of a peaceful and stable nation" he stated.

Barr. Atunwa who had earlier commended Nigerians for their prayers towards the success of the presidential and National Assembly elections urged Christians to take advantage of this holy season to pray for the peace of Nigeria and success of the newly elected government particularly in tackling challenges confronting the nation's progress.

"I also urge Christian brothers and sisters to be inspired and strengthened to pray for Nigeria fervently this holy period. Christians should pray for the success of the new government for the growth of Nigeria as a whole" he said.
