Date: 2015-02-20

The wife of the Kwara State Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, has again reiterated her commitment to the welfare of the less-privileged in the society especially widows and orphans.

Omolewa made this commitment on Wednesday while receiving members of Nigeria Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) Kwara State chapter who paid her a courtesy call.

The First Lady who agreed that she is biased where issues of womenfolk are concerned stated that “it is high time women watched out for one another for the progress of this country. This is because when a woman is able to earn a decent living you have empowered the whole family.”

While pledging her humble contributions to the success of the vocational center project being embarked upon by the association, Omolewa lauded members of the association for standing up for fellow women especially widows and orphans.

Earlier the president of NAOWA, Mrs. Linda Ugorji who led other members of the association on the courtesy call lauded the First Lady for her philanthropic gestures to the less privileged in the society.

She explained that the association has embarked on the construction of a vocational centre in the cantonment so as to assist widows and the less privileged.

She therefore called on the first lady to come to the assistance of  the association for them to be able to complete the project quickly.

In another development, the Civil Defense Officers’ Wives’ Association (CDOWA) identified with the philanthropic activities of Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed and urged her to continue the good work she is doing for the society.

The Secretary of the association, Mrs. Sekanye Abimbola, made this declaration on Wednesday when she led other executives of the association to pay a courtesy call on the First Lady.

While appreciating the good works of the First Lady, Sekanye who revealed that the association is very young having been inaugurated in July 2013, said the aims and objectives of establishing the association is to enhance and promote the right and privilege of the less privileged in the society.

Meanwhile, wife of the governor of Kwara state, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, has tasked members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state on the need to uphold the present cordial labour relationship between labour and the present administration.

Omolewa made this appeal on Wednesday while receiving members of the Union led by its president, Comrade Olumo Kolawole.

Speaking on the reason for the visit, Comrade Kolawole who lauded activities of the First Lady’s pet project LEAH foundation said “we have heard and seen all your laudable activities for the less

privileged in the society and we are impressed. We have therefore come to identify with you.”
