Kwara PDP's gov primaries: Police warn against violence
The Kwara State police command has revealed plans by some people to disrupt the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) December 8 governorship primaries.
Speaking at a meeting with the state PDP leaders and governorship aspirants in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on Friday, the state police commissioner, Alhaji Salihu Garba, said the act would not be tolerated.
The police boss, who complained of proliferation of arms and ammunition and use of hoodlums by politicians in the state, said, “we as security agents shall ward off any aggression from any persons or quarters.
“Any aspirant linked to such unwholesome act or where such is traced to any aspirant, he will be dealt with according to existing laws”, he said.
The police commissioner also advised politicians to always foe the path of law and eschew all acts of violence, adding that there would be no sacred cow.
“Whatever you do should be within the ambit of the law. If you feel you have been wronged, please go to the appropriate quarters and seek redress rather than engage miscreants in disrupting the peace we have been enjoying in the state so far,” he said.
Meanwhile, all PDP governorship aspirants, except one, have raised fear over the primaries, alleging that there was a doctored delegates’ list which the leadership of the party in the state planned to use for the governorship primaries.
Senator S.A. Ajibola acting on behalf of the aggrieved aspirants, handed over what he described as the authentic delegates list to the commissioner of police, stating that only one of the 13 governorship aspirants refused to append signature on a document put up by the forum of the PDP governorship aspirants on their complaints.
