INEC resumes PVC's distribution in troubled Ilorin council
The distribution of permanent voters' card has resumed in parts of Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State where the exercise turned bloody on Friday, leaving a corps member injured.
There was shooting at Ode Belgore, Isale Maliki, Balogun Fulani in Ilorin South Local Government Area after a disagreement between agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) snow-balled into fracas.
It took the swift intervention of security agencies, including the police and armed squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to return normalcy to the area.
The situation was normal yesterday as the exercise resumed in the affected polling units with presence of fully armed security personnel.
The PVC's distribution is being conducted smoothly in the state with voters turning out in large number to collect their cards. Most polling units were crowded as early as 8: 00 a.m as prospective voters were waiting for the INEC ad-hoc staff.
The Minister of National Planning, Dr Abubakar Sulyman, who collected his card at Ode Opobiyi polling unit in Ilorin West, described the turnout as "overwhelming".
The Senator representing Kwara Central senatorial district, Senator Sule Simeon Ajibola, who collected his card at his Isapa hometown in Irepodun Local Government, called on the electoral body to consider an extension of the days set aside for the exercise.
The former Governor of the State, Senator Bukola Saraki, who earlier collected the card at the same polling unit, vowed that the APC would win all elections in the state.
Saraki said no amount of federal might could defeat the people's will as APC was the only acceptable party in the state.
