OPINION: Saraki, Ahmed and the dilemma of 2015. By Gbenga Awoyale

Date: 2014-07-31

My heart bled when I heard and saw the ways Senator Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed are deceiving themselves ahead of the forthcoming 2015 general elections in Kwara State.

Lest they both forgot that in the history of Kwara State which is almost as old as they are, no political leader has ever joined issue(s) with the federal government either on principle of ideology or personal interest.

Senator Saraki in company of Governor Ahmed as well as some inconsiderate and inconsistent members of their camp recently 'murdered sleep' by dumping the party that made them i.e the Peoples' Democratic Party, (PDP) to join the All Progressive Party (APC) a platform that houses and accommodates some selfish political leaders whose intention is to seize power at all cost from the current administration.

With their defection to the APC, it is now crystal clear to Sen. Bukola Saraki that Rome was not built in a day as he is running helter skelter to mend the fence he has personally demolished in his inherited political structure.

If people like Saraki and Ahmed are considerate enough, they would have remained resolute and keep washing their dirty linen inside their respective bedrooms understanding the fact they are one of the major beneficiaries of the party structure to emerge at their respective times to become the Chief Executive of our dear 'State of Harmony'.

Surprisingly, Senator Saraki has yet used his selfish, arrogant and inordinate ambition to mislead Governor Ahmed, a candidate from Kwara South whose eyes are already in the storm because of his inability to do anything reasonable for the people of his area not even the road linking Share and Igbaja that is less than 30km which is causing wide separation in the entire Ifelodun Local Government Area.

They dogmatically left PDP following cheap and unhealthy romance from the Bola Tinubu leadership of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) thereby embarking on a political tour which will soon come to an end with no mark/traces.

If anyone needs to be careful about tussle in the power house, I think Bukola Saraki should be learned enough with the style of political leadership of generosity, humility, humor, mutual respect for elders among others as provided by the Late Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Olusola Saraki, who laboured to make his son become relevant in all facets of human endeavour in the Nigerian political stage.

Saddening enough, how did he reward his father? This is a question that should be answered by every Nigerians who was born before the 2011 elections.

He did not only use his selfish ambition to mislead Governor Ahmed but he has also tagged the entire Kwarans: 'Rebel Groups' in the comity of states in the federation.

What a child's play of "Tom and Jerry" that Bukola and Ahmed are embarking on, over the issue of 2015 governorship ambition. It is clear that Governor Ahmed is highly interested in seeking re-election, although, the cloud is not yet cleared for him. This, Governor Ahmed and his loyalists believed, became necessary due to the fact that he had used the first term tenure as Governor to serve his Master.

On Saraki's part, he doesn't want to produce an ex-Governor that will have such record of ever served for eight years, establishing a rivalry empire that will later challenge and work against his status as the 'Alpha and Omega' of Kwara State political Centre Stage.

To Kwarans, most especially people from the North and Central Districts, the chorus on their lips are: "have Bukky and Ahmed forgotten the zoning pact signed in 2011 which paved way for the current governor to emerge despite the keen/tensed contest posed by gladiators in the then PDP? Do they think the agreed period will not lapse? Now, here comes the period we have been waiting for. We shall surprise both of them!"

Unknowingly to the innocent governor (Governor Ahmed), Bukola Saraki has promised not less than three people the governorship ticket of Kwara APC even as some of them can no longer complete the project of their ordinary duplex as they are busy paying their Master (Senator Saraki) handsomely in order to be favoured.

So, if people are deceiving them, I think they should be able to read between the lines and toe the honourable path. But, I think it is too late for Mr. Saraki because all the reasonable, sincere and committed minds in his caucus have deserted him even as he is presently left with people who only tell him what he desires to hear and not what he ought to hear.

Ask both of them that where is Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, Femi Fani-Kayade among others, whom they all connived to form the APC? On the other side, where are Governors Sule Lamido and Babangida Aliyu of Jigawa and Niger States respectively who were part of the G7 PDP struggles? They have all toed different paths that can reward their respective interests.

At this point, one needs not be told that in the entire North Central composed of; Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Niger and Kogi , it is Kwara State that is championing the cards of the opposition under the leadership of Bukola Saraki even as Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State is almost getting set to be forced out of the scene.

The current APC government in Kwara State has only built mere building for the people of Omu-Aran not General Hospital ditto other areas because the projects does not have the facilities that can provide adequate healthcare services to the people. This has made us lose the PDP Woman Leader in Irepodun Local Government recently.

I am also aware of a town hall meeting going on in the Kwara South were 20 people are allegedly paired to share the sum of N5, 000. Such is nothing but huge time and resources wastage. At the gathering people are sponsored and picked randomly to speak for the community, the APC leadership is planning yet another failure by pretending to be a 'judge in its own case'.

We can only advise people to take the money and remain resolute to the fact PDP government will soon come on board to wipe-off their tears as orchestrated by the current political leadership in the state.

So, therefore, who is fooling who? Kwarans, shine your eyes well, well!!!
