British envoy laments Boko Haram insurgency

Date: 2014-07-07

The British High Commissioner in Nigeria Dr. Andrew Cocock, has expressed concern over the rising security challenges in the country especially the Boko Haram insurgency.

Dr. Cocock spoke at the 12th Graduation and Prize-Giving ceremony of the Thomas Adewumi International College, Oko, Kwara State, at the weekend.

"Nigeria is going through some of the most difficult times in its independent history. The insurgency in the north east, violence in the middle belt, corruption and oil theft in the Niger delta" adding that the inability of the government to find the missing over 200 Chibok girls two months after their abduction by Boko Haram terrorists was worrisome.

Dr. Cocock expressed optimism, however that with greater commitment by the leadership, the insurgency, violence and corruption could be contained.

The ambassador commended TAICO for its commitment to quality education.

In his address, the Proprietor of the College Dr. Johnson Adewunmi charged proprietors to see investment in education as means of empowering people and uplifting the society.
