Insurgency - Lawmaker Wants Military to Change Approach
Mr Zakari Mohammed, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, on Monday, urged the military to explore new approach in combating the Boko Haram insurgency.
Mohammed made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara on Monday.
The lawmaker, who is representing Baruten/Kaiama federal constituency, advised the military to concentrate on intelligence gathering.
He said that apart from changing tactics, the military must collaborate with communities and focus more on intelligence gathering "to know the movement of the insurgents."
He then expressed confidence in the ability of the new Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, in the task ahead.
The chairman described the situation in the north eastern part of the country as unfortunate, saying innocent lives were lost daily for no reason. (NAN)
