Kwara Falcons player dies in auto crash
Kwara Falcons Basketball team on Friday lost one of their players, Joseph Aduku while three other members of the team sustained injuries in a fatal accident which occurred at Otte, Asa local government area of the state on their way from Lagos.
The injured players Kelvin Okoro, Adeola Kambi, Emeka and the late Aduku were part of the 17 players registered for the Dstv Premier Basketball League which kicks off on March 7 after the jump ball event yesterday at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.
The players of the newly-promoted side were returning to Ilorin to join their colleagues ahead of their Premier League season's opener.
The remains of Aduku have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH)'s mortuary, while the injured trio are receiving treatment in the same hospital.
The state's Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Prince Saheed Popoola who confirmed the unfortunate incident, commiserated with the family of the deceased just as he wished the recuperating players quick recovery.
Popoola said the government would take over the treatment of the injured players adding that the family of the deceased will not be abandoned.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the state's Basketball Association, Dr Joseph Adeyemo hinted that the association would write to the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for the postponement of the team's first two matches against Union Bank and Dodan Warriors scheduled for March 7 and 14 respectively in Lagos.
