Kwara Dep Gov's ADC Didn't Fight Okada Rider - Police

Date: 2014-01-10

The Kwara State Police Command yesterday said it was still awaiting post-mortem report on the actual cause of the death of the state deputy governor's Aide De Camp, Inspector Mark Jerry Gaiya.

The command however maintained that the ADC did not engage in fisticuffs with the Okada rider but merely slumped and died.

Inspector Gaiya had on Wednesday pursued a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called Okada rider, who beat the convoy of the deputy governor, Elder Peter Kishira while resuming for work.

The deceased who was said to be suffering from a heart-related problem reportedly slumped and died while attempting to engage the Okada rider whose identity could not be identified as he was said to have disappeared.

Speaking with Daily Trust yesterday, the police spokesman, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi said: "Let me state that there was no scuffle between him and the Okada rider. What happened was that the Okada rider went through the wrong way, and in the course of running after the Okada man, he slumped and died. As of now, the result of the post-mortem is not yet out to ascertain the real cause of the death. But the guy died not as a result of any fisticuff with any Okada man or whatever. He just slumped and died".

Daily Trust also gathered yesterday that the deceased, an indigene of Kaduna State left behind his aged parents, wife and three children.
