KWHA wants pedestrians flyovers in Ilorin

Date: 2013-11-30

The Kwara House of Assembly yesterday urged Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to erect pedestrian flyovers in some parts of Ilorin to curb occurrence of accident.

The House made the call in its resolution after adopting a matter of urgent public importance on difficulties being faced by pedestrians before crossing some major roads by  Dr. Abraham Ashaolu who represents Oke-Ero Constituency.

Ashaolu in his submission urged the government to take urgent step towards solving problem being encountered by pedestrians before crossing some highways in the state capital.

The Deputy Speaker, Prof. Gana Yissa who presided over yesterday’s plenary while reading the resolution of the House, urged the governor to erect pedestrian flyover along Muritala Mohammed Road, Ilorin.

The resolution noted that since great number of banks and other companies are concentrated in the area, there will be increase in the number of pedestrians who will be crossing the road.

The House directed its Committee on Lands and Housing to ensure that the House’s demand on flyover for pedestrians is included in 2014 budget of the state.

In another resolution, the House directed its Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development to investigate activities of the Kwara Town Planing Authority against approving construction of buildings in an authorized area.

This resolution was reached after adopting another matter of urgent  public importance on indiscriminate parking of vehicles in unauthorized places in Ilorin by a member representing Omupo Constituency,  Hon. Mashood Bakare.

The House directed the Committee to contact the state Road Maintenance Agency with a view to discouraging indiscriminate parking on roads especially during events.

The Legislators directed owners of event centres to find parking space instead of parking on roads during event.

The House directed the Committee to report progress on its resolution to the House by 17th December.
