Kwara inaugurates LOC for National School Sports Festival
The Kwara state government on Wednesday inaugurated a 19-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the organization of the 6th edition of the National School Sports Festival tagged 'Kwara 2013'.
Equally, 11 sub-committees were constituted to allow for hitch-free hosting of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) programme.
While briefing newsmen at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development on Wednesday, the Chairman of the LOC, Mrs. Rhoda Ajiboye, who is the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, said that the choice of Kwara was a further attestation of the relative peace in the state.
She said that the present administration places high premium on sports as a tool for national unity and development, as well as a vehicle for economic growth and youth empowerment.
She later inaugurated the LOC.
In his own speech at the inauguration ceremony, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Lamidi Alabi charged the LOC members to work hard, as the assignment will put the state in public glare.
The 11 sub-committees include that of security, media/publicity, ceremonial/protocol, venues/facilities, opening and closing ceremonies, finance, medical, accommodation and welfare, feeding and entertainment, transport as well as technical.
The National Schools Sports Festival will hold between November 20th-30th, in Ilorin, and about 6,000 students all over the federation will participate in the Games.
17 scoring and six non-scoring events will be competed for at the Games.
