Kwara CAILS gets new provost
A new Provost has been appointed for Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin. He is Dr. Musa Alabi Abdullahi.
Dr. Abdullahi succeeded Dr. Abdus-Samii Imam Arikewuyo whose tenure has just expired. Prior to the appointment of Dr. Abdullahi, the Deputy Provost Academic Dr: Yaqub Abdullahi had acted as the provost for a period of five months.
A statement signed by the College Public Relation Officer said the new provost was born in 1957, the new Provost hails from Ilorin in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. He completed his Primary Education at Barakat L.G.E.A. Primary School, Ilorin in1970 He later proceeded to Ilorin Grammar School, where he sat for and passed his WAEC in 1976. Still in search for knowledge, Dr. Abdullahi went to Federal College of Education, Okene where he .obtained his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1982.
In 1987, he bagged his B.A. (Ed.) (Islamic studies and Education) from the University of Ilorin, M.Ed. (Teacher Education/ Social Studies) from the University of Ibadan in 1990 and Ph.D. (Social Studies Education) from the University of Ilorin in 2006.
The new Provost started his teaching career at Government High School, Ilorin in 1983 to 1991 where he rose to the rank of Senior Education Officer before he moved to Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin in 1992 as one of the pioneer lecturers and rose to the post of Chief Lecturer before he was appointed the new Provost.
As a seasoned educationist, Dr. Abdullahi has scholarly academic publications to his credit and has participated in various learned conferences and seminars both within and outside the state.
Dr. Musa Abdullahi, is a member of numerous professional and academic bodies. He is a one time Chairman of Academic Staff Union (ASU), Kwara CAILS Chapter, former President, College of Legal and Allied Academic Staff Union (COLAASU), member, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT); member, National Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS); member, Social Studies Association of Nigeria (SOSAN) and member, Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) among others.
He has served Kwara CAILS in many capacities which includes amongst others; Deputy Provost (academic) between 2007 - 2011; National Auditor, University of Ilorin Alumni Association, 2008 to 2012, Editor of Ilorin Journal of Humanities and currently the State Auditor, Kwara State Micro Finance Institutions to mention just few. The new Provost has since assumed duty and he is happily married with children.
Meanwhile, a special prayer was held on Saturday the 5th October, 2013 in his honour at his Popo-Giwa family house for the smooth take-off and successful tenure of office.
The prayer was led by the Imam Gogoro Mosque, Alhaji Abdulmumin Oyan and was supported by the Imam Ajongolo Mosque, Khalifa Salaudeen Abubakar.
The prayer was well attended by members of the Academia, politicians, technocrats, Islamic Scholars and people from all walks of life.
