LG poll: Emir sues for peace
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari has called on people of Kwara State to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the forthcoming local government election in the state.
He made the call in Ilorin weekend during the fund raising for construction of modern house for Magaji Oloje of Ilorin, Alhaji Nuhu Rufai held at Mount Camel College, Ilorin.
The Emir emphasized the need for people to live peacefully among themselves, noting that there cannot be meaningful development in a rancorous environment.
The monarch who spoke through Magaji Aare of Ilorin, Alhaji Aremu Zubair, also advocated for unity among the people of the state and the country at large.
While lauding Oloje Dynasty for the initiative, he called on well-to-do individuals to contribute morally and financially towards the realization of the project.
The chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Alarape Ayinla also commended the people of Oloje community for championing the course of constructing a modern house for traditional ruler in the area.
He implored well meaning individuals to support the monarch in the struggle to have a befitting house.
The chairman of the central working committee, Alhaji Shehu Jimoh Alaidan who described traditional rulers as custodians of people's heritage, culture and tradition, said the programme was first of its kind in the history of Oloje chieftaincy stool.
Alaidan said the programme was organized to complement government efforts in improving living condition of the traditional ruler, noting that welfare of traditional rulers should not be left to government alone.
He appreciated positive response of wealthy individuals, occupational and professional associations, market women, artisans, traders, traditional rulers, prominent politicians and top government functionaries, describing it as catalyst to committee's efforts in bringing the idea into actuality.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in Ilorin West Local Government, Alhaji Tajudeen Zulu Oloje was the highest donor of N500,000 on the occasion.
He said if elected, his administration would make life more meaning to the people of the council.
Sermon was delivered by an Islamic scholar, Alhaji Imam Atonto.
The programme was well attended by Baloguns, Magajis, royal fathers from Kwara South as well as sons and daughters of Oloje community within and outside the country.
