Mrs Ahmed empowers women, adopts 175 pupils
Distributing the items on the occasion, with the theme, ‘Women Participation in Politics: The Bedrock for Nation Building, Mrs. Ahmed, who described the gesture as a call to service urged the women to use the items for the specified purpose toward uplifting their economic positions.
The empowerment items included tailoring machines, grinding machines, generators, hair dressing equipment, stock support and financial support for five cooperatives with no fewer than 100 women while other distribution items included bags of rice and bundles of textiles with about 630 women as beneficiaries.
Similarly at the event, the founder of LEAH foundation adopted 175 pupils of Nomadic School, Abe Ogede, Idofin Odo-Ashe through the Adopt-a-Child Education scheme of the foundation.
The beneficiaries who are indigent pupils received uniforms, school bags, socks and books aimed at equipping them for good education even as Mrs. Ahmed promised to build more classrooms for the school and provide daily lunch for the pupils as “stay in school incentive”.
On arrival the first lady paid a courtesy call on the Aloffa of Iloffa, Oba Samuel Dada, at his palace.
Also speaking at the event, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Women Affairs, Dr. (Mrs) Biola Adimula, commended Mrs. Ahmed “for this great initiative to distinguish the great work of our women and set them apart for this open show of appreciation, for their consistent support for the present administration and generations of previous government in the state”.
She congratulated the First Lady on the empowerment programme which she said was unique and an extension of the work being done to reach remote communities in the State, adding, “We are confident that greater benefits are in the pipeline not only for our women but for all and sundry.”
Adimula also enjoined the beneficiaries of the programme to appreciate God for counting them worthy for the impactful gesture and put in their best to be enterprising toward ensuring improved business yield and contribution to the society.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Oke-Ero LGA, Hajia Aminat Folake Yusuf, called on the people to support the Ahmed administration for continued quality leadership.
