Consensus politics, best option for Nigeria - Kwara APC Chairman

Date: 2014-04-30

The newly elected chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Alhaji Ishola Balogun Fulani has described consensus politics being practiced by Saraki political dynasty as the best option for Nigeria politics.

He said if people embrace Saraki’s consensus politics, there will be no more hooliganism as well as  in-fighting and quarreling.

Balogun Fulani who spoke with The Herald in Ilorin yesterday, said  consensus has been working in Kwara politics because there is structure.

According to him “The consensus was started by Baba Oloye very long time ago when people then didn’t believe in it. The consensus is just about consulting with people and trying to bring out the best material from the people to head certain position.

“When they saw the caliber of people being brought to occupy one post or the other, they now embrace it. Actually, consensus is best option for Nigeria politically because when people embrace consensus, there will be no more hooliganism, there will be no more in-fighting and quarreling.

“So, the consensus was brought to PDP by Baba Saraki and it is the same consensus that was transfered to APC through the structure of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki who inherited it from Baba Oloye. Immediately we left PDP, the consensus died in PDP”.

He called on other states to borrow a leaf from consensus politics being practiced by Saraki political dynasty in the interest of political stability.

Speaking on the recent congresses of PDP in the state, he described the exercise as seemingly disrupted congresses.

Balogun Fulani said PDP had failed to conduct the exercise because the party lacked leadership.

“PDP is party that has no leader because where we have 10 or 20 people claiming to be the leaders indicates that they have more than 20 factions in PDP. So, with that, every faction will now be clamouring to run the soul of that party and if they didn’t get it, the next thing is to come back to APC.

“And, to us, its a good omen to APC because we know at the end of the day everybody is coming back to APC because they went to PDP, thinking that there will be something for them but there was nothing. On our part, our doors are open and we have been trying to talk to them to see the reason for coming back to APC”.

The APC chairman said APC has fully prepared to win the 2015 general elections which he said has been demonstrated through the last congresses of the party.

“All the political parties that were giving us problem in Kwara State have now joined us. That is to say there is no any formidable opposition again. So, election in  Kwara State will be won by APC peacefully and without any rancour”, he added.
