House okays change of KWASU to ASSU
The bill scaled through the third reading and final passage on the floor of the House.
The passage was sequel to the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development presented by Hon. Suleiman Sunoboro Idris representing Ilesha/Gwanara Constituency.
Idris said 40 stakeholders made oral and written submissions out of which 35 were in support, while the remaining five were against the change of name.
He said those in support of renaming KWASU after the late Senate Leader described the move as a welcome development due to the contributions of the late political icon to the socio-economic development of the state and Nigeria in general.
The Speaker, Barrister Razak Atunwa said the bill is passed having satisfied the rule of the House and the Constitution of the Federal Republic Nigeria.
He asked the clerk to prepare a neat copy for the governor's assent.
In another development, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of the state has presented four amendment bills to the House for consideration and passage.
The bills are Criminal Procedure Code Law (Amendment Bill); District Court Law (Amendment Bill), Area Court Law (Amendment Bill) and Rent Control and Recovery Premises Bill, 2013.
The bills, according to the governor, seek to amend their principal laws in order to enhance administration of justice and to ensure speedy trial of cases in the court.
The Speaker who read the governor's messages, referred the bills to the House Committee on Rules and Business for further legislative action.
