UNILORIN Plans Uninterrupted Power Supply On Campus

Date: 2013-08-07

At the ninth Mosobolaje Oyawoye Faculty of Science Endowed Lecture Series on tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdul Ganiyu Ambali said that the institution was planning to provide uninterrupted power supply on its campus.

Prof. Ambali stated this in Ilorin when he declared open at the University main auditorium.

He said the plan was part of a strategy to prepare the University to key into the Federal Government's plans to have at least six of the Nigerian Universities as African Centres of Excellence.

According to him, one key milestone of this effort is to see stable and uninterrupted power supply in selected universities in the country.

"These centres can be home to modern laboratories and equipment that can be shared by other institutions within the geopolitical zone," he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the University was set to secure the slot for North Central geopolitical zone, adding: "our proposal is almost ready".

Prof. Ambali also called for greater funding of the University by the Federal Government, citing the judicious manner the University has so far expended the funds allocated to it.

In his welcome address, the Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. Biola Adeleke, also called for greater funding for the University.
