Kwara NUJ alerts members of dissidents' activities

Date: 2013-08-05

Kwara state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has urged  members and the general public to disregard the resolutions reached at "an unauthorised congress purportedly held by very  few  dissident members  at an unknown location."

The union, in a statement signed by its chairman, Abiodun Abdulkareem, said the council had intimidated security operatives in the state about the illegal activities of a few members of the union.

The statement said: "It is on record that the State Executive Council (SEC) of the NUJ had at the end of its meeting last Monday among other resolutions slated the monthly congress of the union for Tuesday, August 6, 2013.

"The leadership of the union at the state level is in constant consultation with the leaders at the zonal level.

"The zone 'D' Vice President has also slated a special State Executive Council meeting and congress of the union for Tuesday, at the union's temporary secretariat along Old Jebba road, Ilorin, at 3:30pm.

"The zonal Vice President of the union, Mr Mathias Omale, will be in Ilorin to personally preside over the congress."
