Nigeria should export textiles - Gov. Ahmed
The Governor said this during a meeting with representatives of the Kaduna Textiles Limited Workers’ Forum, Nigerian newspaper Daily Independent reported.
The Governor stressed on the revival of cotton and textile industries in the country, and added that Nigeria should export textiles, instead of importing them.
He said the revival of the textile sector would also lead to creation of jobs and boost the nation’s economy.
Mr. Ahmed suggested that as part of the strategy for revival of the textile industries, they should be given regular access to reliable energy, as irregular power supply increases the cost of production and also hinders industrial growth.
He said the Northern Governors’ Forum is committed to the revival of the Kaduna textile mill, which was closed down in November 2002.
Anthony Afolayan, leader of the Workers’ Forum, said the textile mill said the revival of the Kaduna textile mill can be carried out through access to loan facility reserved for textile companies by the Federal Government through the Bank of Industry (BoI).
He suggested that the Board of Directors of the Kaduna textile mill should be privatized, by entering into partnership with local and foreign investors.
