NPL: The New Goal Machine
Mfon Udoh of Akwa United with 5 goals in 3 games is currently the most potent forward in the Nigeria Premier League 2012/2013 season after week 22 games. Mfon capitalised on the drawback of Rabiu Ali, Oghenekaro Etebo, Dele Olorundare and most especially Yahaya Adamu who is yet to score in three games.
Rabiu Ali is yet to score in six games while Dele Olorundare, Oghenekaro Etebor and Yahya Adamu last scored in week 19. None of the four players have been able to find the net since the second stanza of the league resumed. Former league leading scorer, Isah Akor of Heartland FC is also yet to score in four league games.
Kwara United are yet to record a win three games. It is now evident that the burden of the team is over Yahaya Adamu. His inability to find the net in three games has crawled on his team's performance with 2 draws and 1 loss in their last three games. The former Rising Stars player held the tag as the most potent striker some weeks ago after scoring five goals in four matches before being displaced by Oghenekaro Etebo and now Mfon Udoh.
Having failed to score in three games due to transfer issue, Bishop Onyeudo woke up from slumber to score for his new club Enyimba FC on his debut. The former Gombe United striker now has 9 gals. Victor Namo of Nasarawa United who has 8 goals so far joined Bishop on the list of strikers who woke up from their slumber in week 22 after failing to score in three games.
The case of Peter Ebimobowei of Bayelsa United is different. Peter's goal scoring intelligence is part of the reason why Bayelsa United are doing well. He was not featured last weekend against Kano Pillars. There are several sides to the story. He is being accused of anti-club activity and the other version says his absence is due to injury. Mentioning the team's success without crediting the effort of Uche Ihuarulan who has done so many assist and scored vital goals would not make a complete story of Bayelsa United this season. Peter has 7 goals while Uche has 5 goals after week 22.
The Nigeria Premier League 2012/2013 season week 22 produced four new players who scored their first goal of the season. The four players are Solomon Junior (Bayelsa United), Luther Isaac (Sharks FC), Meshack Chukwubuikem (Rangers), and Hassan Hussein (ELKanemi Warriors).
Though Dele Olorundare (11 goals) is still the leading top scorer in the league after 22 games, Mfon Udon (8 goals) is however the most potent forward on current form having scored five goals in three games. Mfon is closely followed by Ibrahim Shuaibu of Wikki Tourists with three goals in three games.
