Mr Agboola Oshodi-Glover, the Kwara Commissioner of  Police,  on Wednesday assured the organiser of the maiden Kwara Five-A-Side Street Soccer event of adequate security.

Oshodi-Glover gave the assurance when the Main Organising Committee of the competition paid him a courtesy visit in Ilorin.

The commissioner observed that the committee's visit portrayed its determination to ensure a hitch-free competition.

"I am delighted with the committee's  visit inspite of the fact that security is for everybody in the country.

"We are partners in progress and I assure you of our security cooperation," he said.

Earlier, Alhaji Toyin Olokooba, the Chairman of the committee,  told the commissioner that the visit was  to solicit adequate security during the competition.

"It is necessary for the committee to embark on the visit because sports,  especially football, is associated with violence and hooliganism,'' he said.

Olokooba sought the cooperation of the command in the  venues of the tournament which he said cuts  across the 16 local government areas of the state.

He noted that with the police  support, the committee was looking forward to  a hitch-free competition. (NAN)
