Youth Makes a Nation: Senator Saraki Meets With Representatives From Group Of Unemployed Nigerians
An assemblage of young diverse mind representing youths from the 774 local governments of the federation under the aegis of Group Of Unemployed Nigerians “Gun774 Movement” paid a courtesy call to the Senate Chairman on Ecology and Environment, Senator Bukola Saraki to discuss the rising spate of youth unemployment prevalent within the society and possible solution out of the quagmire.
The group delegation which was led by Mr Okechukwu Felix Nwachuckwu commended the Senator for being the only members of the National Assembly who granted them audience considering the fact that several attempt has been made in the past to gain access and contact numerous members of the highest law making body.
Another member of the group, Alihu who hails from Kaduna State seized the opportunity to brief Senator Saraki on the groups plan; Alihu stated that the group is working on setting up resource centers in different parts of the country to help train graduates to become employable since not all graduates have the capabilities to be employable even with their degree and qualification.
Responding to the group on their lofty project, Senator Saraki commended them for coming together despite their different backgrounds which was very diverse considering that they are members from all parts of Nigeria with different levels of education. Saraki, who has worked with young people during and after his tenure as Kwara State governor relishes on similar youth scheme he initiated years ago - The “Back2Farm” initiatives which recorded tremendous success with youth at the heart of it to help small and medium enterprise grow in Kwara State.
Senator Saraki assured them that he is working tediously with his colleaques in the Senate to make sure legislations are put in place to create more employment scemes and also a safety net that will support people who are actively seeking, willing and able to work.
The “Gun774 Movement” chairman finally used the occasion to thank Senator Saraki for granting them audience pointing the various developments he brought to Kwara State during his two terms as Governor of Kwara State. A time he attested to that Kwara State witnessed enormous transformation which generated amazing number of jobs, foreign investment and growth. He stated that there is an urgent need for every Nigerian to work together to tackle the issue of unemployment. He said “to achieve the vision of giving focus to the reduction of the growing of unemployment in Nigeria, there is need to generate job support and skills for the teaming Nigerian youths”.
The Distinguished Senator thanked them for coming and concluded that his office will welcome inputs from the group towards formulating a legal framework that will cater for the yearnings and aspirations of the teaming youths in Nigeria.
