LG Lays Foundation for N60m Modern Market in Erin-Ile
Oyun Local Government in Kwara on Wednesday laid the foundation of a N60 million modern central market in Erin-Ile to boost the economic and commercial activities of the area.
The Sole Administrator of the council, Alhaji Gidado Bello, said in Erin-Ile that the project was part of the administration's strategies to enhance inter-community relations among the people.
According to him, the idea is to increase interaction among the communities and sustain the peaceful co-existence between Erin-Ile and surrounding towns through trading activities.
"Apart from the fact that the project is expected to boost and fast track the economic and commercial activities it is also intended to increase interaction among the communities on commercial basis.
"When that happens, our hope for an everlasting peaceful co-existence between Erin-Ile and its neighbouring communities would be assured," Gidado said.
He explained that the major target for the proposed 128 stores market was to attract patronage from traders from South-South, South-East, Kwara and Lagos.
"We were able to discover that the people of the communities who are predominantly farmers lacked a modern market to sell their produce and showcase their endowed resources.
"It is our hope that the market will attract more investors and also increase the number of commercial banks within the locality," he said.
According to him, the market, with an administrative block, will be equipped with modern facilities.
He said that the project would be solely financed by the council and was expected to be completed within six months.
Gidado restated the commitment of the administration toward executing projects that would impact meaningfully on the standard of living of the people.
He said some of the projects and policies included refurbishment of Ilemona police patrol vehicle, rehabilitation of schools and increment in the salary of traditional rulers and chiefs.
