NUJ Seeks Constitutional Amendment to Electoral Contest

Date: 2013-05-05

Manifestoes and intended programmes of political office seekers in the country should henceforth no longer be pure party matters but a constitutional matter that must be strictly adhered to by all persons and political parties.

A workshop organised by the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), made this recommendation in Ilorin, the state capital as part of its Press Week celebrations.

The workshop featured papers presented by Dr. Shittu Raji of the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies at the University of Ilorin, Mr. Dare Babarinsa, a renowned journalist, and Editor-in-Chief of Gaskia Media Limited, as well as Dr. Gbemisola Animashaun, also of the University of Ilorin

A communiqué at the end of the workshop was of the opinion that the constitutional provision must be such that all parties would be compelled to comply and conform with.
