Sachet Water Producers Embark on Strike as Kwarans Resist N10 per Sachet

Date: 2013-04-27

Following the selling of sachet of pure water at five naira in some part of the states across the country as against ten naira being sold in Kwara state which led to attacks on supply vehicles by some customers in Ilorin, the Kwara Chapter of the Association of Table water Producer of Nigeria on Thursday began an indefinite strike action.

The Secretary of the Association, Alhaji Musa Kayode, who announced the commencement of the strike while speaking with Newsmen in IIorin, said the strike has become inevitable following series of attacks of Vehicles of pure water Vendors which he said normally lead to shortage.

Kayode said the Association has reported the matter to the law enforcement agents without any positive response to correct the menace.

He, however, appealed to the Consumers to bear with the Association over the strike.

Some Kwara residents who spoke with Royal Times correspondent on the issue said that pure water is being sold at five naira in Oshogbo, osun state, a bag sold at eighty naira per bag in Abuja, while a bag is sold at sixty naira in Lagos where the economic standard is very high as against ten naira per sachet in Ilorin.

When contacted on the strike, the Governor special Adviser on Transport and Utility, Alhaji Bibire Ajape said the Government is doing everything possible to address the matter.
