We'll Find Killers of Kwara CP, 'Bayelsa 12' - Police
The Police, on Sunday, vowed to find killers of policemen, saying this is the highest possible honour that could be given to slain officers.
This was as the police management stated that they were closing-in on the killers of the former Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Chinweike Asadu, who was killed at his residence in Enugu.
The Police Management Team who briefed journalists through the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mbah reeled out fresh Operational Orders aimed at reducing fatalities among Police Officers in or out of official duty.
The Management Team also described as "despicable, wicked and hard heart-hardened" the killing of 12 Police Officers by unknown gun men, over the weekend in Bayelsa state.
Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) had claimed responsibility for the killing which the Police had dismissed, Mba, explained that the best posthumous honour they can give to their slain colleagues was to find their killers.
On the Kwara State Police Commissioner who was killed weeks ago, Mba explained that though the Police have made tremendous break-through in the investigation, they chose to keep low profile on that in order not to give any clue to the other members of the gang that killed the officer, who are still at large.
"We are deliberately keeping the investigation under wraps in order not to jeopardize what we are doing or open up so that other suspects who participated in the murder, whom we are closing in on, would not find out the slightest clue and run away.
"Those who killed Chinweike, murdered sleep and they would not sleep as well. We are closing in on them and very soon, we will tell the whole world what happened".
Speaking on the killing of the police officers in Bayelsa state, the DFPRO explained that the Police Management Team were worried at increasing level of unprovoked and murderous targets at police officers.
In particular, apart from designing the new Operational Order that would reduce the level of fatalities of security agencies while on official assignments, Mba stated that the race against criminals have been upped as it has been considered to have assumed "enormous proportion".
"The challenges are not insurmountable and we will cross over it, we believe that it is unfair for people to see police officers on official assignments as ready targets to be brutally murdered like that.
"Even with the killings, the Nigeria Police Force will not be forced into abdicating its primary duty of providing security for Nigerians. We will soon be on top of the situation".
