Kwara Government Sues for Peace in Ganmo Community
Following the violent protest that rocked Ganmo community of Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state over kingship tussle over the weekend; the state commissioner of local government, chieftaincy affairs and community development, Alhaji Isa Bawa Adamu, has appealed to residents of Ganmo to put an end to violence, saying that government has not installed any occupant on the stool of Onigano of Ganmo.
The Commissioner who made the appeal during an interview with Royal Times explained that government has not done anything wrong as it has only upgraded the stool of the Onigano of Ganmo to a third class grade and waiting for the ministry of justice to interpret the judgment from the law court.
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the state , DSP Femi Fabode confirmed that two people were killed, but noting that normalcy is returning to the area.
The PPRO said that fifteen people have been arrested and they will be charged to court as soon as possible.
It was gathered that two ethnic groups, the Igbomina and Afonja descendants of Idi-Ape quarters, Ilorin are claiming ownership of the ancient town.
The crisis began when the Ilorin faction got wind of a plan to install and present a Staff of Office to the Igbomina traditional ruler.
