The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its readiness to end the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s eight-year administration in Kwara State, expressing confidence of victory in the 2027 general elections.

The party made the declaration on Wednesday during a 13-kilometre road walk in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, which it described as a demonstration of its growing grassroots support ahead of the elections.

Addressing journalists after the rally, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the turnout reflected the desire of many Kwarans for a new political direction, arguing that the aspirations behind the 2019 Otoge movement had yet to be realised.

"There was a reason for Otoge in 2019. We left what was then the PDP administration, but after eight years, we believe Kwara has not reached the promised land. The PDP was Egypt, the APC represents the wilderness, and the ADC is the promised land," he said.

Abdullahi maintained that widespread dissatisfaction with both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would work in the ADC's favour during the 2027 elections.

He described the ADC as the only credible alternative with a clear vision for governance, adding that while the party remained open to politicians from other parties, new entrants would be expected to abide by its principles.

On the recent Court of Appeal judgment dismissing the suit seeking the deregistration of the ADC, Abdullahi said the ruling reaffirmed the party's position and upheld the rule of law.

Speaking on the 2027 governorship election, he expressed confidence that the ADC candidate, Hon. Zakari Muhammed, would defeat APC candidate and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu.

According to him, both candidates are from the same local government area in Kwara North, giving voters a clear basis to assess their leadership credentials.

He also argued that equity demands that the governorship should remain in Kwara North after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq completes his second term.

"It is politically wrong and morally unjust for someone from Ilorin to govern the state for eight years and then be succeeded by another person from the same local government. Justice requires that the next governor should emerge from Kwara North," Abdullahi said.

On the credibility of the 2027 elections, the former Minister of Sports said the ADC would focus on protecting its votes rather than relying solely on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Commenting on Governor AbdulRazaq's administration, Abdullahi acknowledged that the governor had recorded some achievements but argued that the government could have performed better by carrying the people along and paying greater attention to their needs.

He attributed the large turnout at the rally to growing public confidence in the ADC, noting that the party exceeded its own expectations despite lacking the financial resources of larger political parties.

Also speaking, the ADC's Kwara North senatorial candidate, Taoheed Usman, described the road walk as evidence of the party's expanding grassroots support across the state.

He pledged that an ADC administration would prioritise security, education, healthcare, agriculture and inclusive governance if elected in 2027.
